I’ve always enjoyed photography, but I wanted to know more about it. In September 2016, I came to Richard Stromberg’s Chicago Photography Classes for the free 90-Minute Camera Workshop. Until then, I took all my pictures with my iPhone and didn't know anything about cameras. After the free lesson, I couldn’t wait to start taking classes and learn more.
I bought a Canon T6i and signed up for Photo I at the end of October last year. In that first class, I learned about the basic camera exposure as well as lighting, focus, and printing. I continued learning the technical aspects in Photo II. In Photo III, I discovered that abstract photography of everyday things is what I like to do. Through my lens they're not just things, I can make them more interesting and give them a little bit more significance. When I signed for the Show class, I knew I was going to take pictures of something that everyone sees daily but never pays attention to as much.
My theme for this collection is newspapers. Why? Most of us are reading news on our mobile devices for the convenience and helping to save time and trees. Despite all of that, newspapers are still around in coffee shops, on trains, on the street in front of our house. We still see them every day. That's why I decided to make them a little bit more relevant. All the photographs are archivally printed on Hahnemühle FineArt William Turner paper. I feel this paper gives them texture, like the look and feel of real newspapers.
Please join us on Sun., Sept. 17th from 10:30 A.M – 4:00 P.M. to view and congratulate this year's class. 14 students have worked months to create amazing bodies of work! Included with the WithInSight Gallery this year are photographs from our new High School Program (FreshLens). Included in the opening are hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and a raffle with a chance to win one of the artist's prints. We hope to see you!
