With a career in corporate recruiting, I’ve always had creative side gigs, from best-selling Kindle fitness author to singing and playing guitar in alt/punk bands, as well as DJing and acting. My wife and I also love the beach. In 2013, I bought an Olympus underwater camera kit for Caribbean snorkeling adventures. Back in Chicago, I started taking more and more pictures on land, which drove me to learn more about the tech side of photography. A late-night Google search led me Richard Stromberg’s Chicago Photography Classes.
I took the free 90-Minute Camera Workshop in June 2016 and started Photo I around Halloween. After years of auto mode, the technical aspects of photography were frustrating new concepts. I stuck with it, even managing an elusive few good shots. Determined to learn more, I moved on to the Photo II class in January. After a few more good shots, I went into Photo III this past spring ready to explore more of the artistic side.
I chose fences for the theme of my show photographs because even though they’re everywhere, they often go unnoticed. Once I started looking, I was amazed at the many different types just a few blocks from home. The varied texture of wood and metal also drew my attention. Sometimes dirt and grit can be beautiful, and I tried to showcase that with these shots. All the photographs are archivally printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin paper.
Please join us on Sun., Sept. 17th from 10:30 A.M – 4:00 P.M. to view and congratulate this year's class. 14 students have worked months to create amazing bodies of work! Included with the WithInSight Gallery this year are photographs from our new High School Program (FreshLens). Included in the opening are hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and a raffle with a chance to win one of the artist's prints. We hope to see you!
