Erinn Wehrman
After completing a few classes at Richard Stromberg's Chicago Photography Classes, I faced my first serious photography challenge while trying to pick a theme for my Photo III class. Struggling to come up with a creative one that interested me, I turned to the brilliant minds of my three young children, who promptly suggested that I shoot their Lego and Star Wars toys:
I found it difficult to argue with their logic. Plus, I loved the pure excitement and joy they had in contributing to my photography. Building on my kids’ creative vision, I began photographing their toys in popular locations throughout Chicago. I sought to create witty, quirky and often comical photos that explored Chicago from a different (often slightly smaller) perspective.
My photographs integrated the characters into real life situations throughout Chicago.
I had so much fun creating mischievous adventures for the Lego Stormtroopers (“my guys”) that I continued my work beyond the original class. What started as a class project has evolved into a true passion. I can’t wait to see what trouble “my guys” get into next. My photographs are archivally printed on Epson Metallic Photo Paper Glossy.
I hope that my collection makes you smile, and maybe even laugh. I also hope my photos can serve as a source of inspiration for you to be adventurous and silly, to never take life too seriously, all while looking at the world around you from an unfamiliar perspective.
You will still find me in the studio, working on this project and several others. You can also find me on Instagram – Erinn Wehrman.
I teach Photo I classes, hoping to enthuse new students to be daring, to think outside the box, and to find what inspires them.
Please join us on Sun., Sept. 17th from 10:30 A.M – 4:00 P.M. to view and congratulate this year's class. 14 students have worked months to create amazing bodies of work! Included with the WithInSight Gallery this year are photographs from our new High School Program (FreshLens). Included in the opening are hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and a raffle with a chance to win one of the artist's prints. We hope to see you!
